MASH clinical trials are opening new doors for patients with Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), previously known as Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a serious liver condition gaining attention due to its increasing prevalence and limited FDA-approved treatments.<\/p>

Why MASH Clinical Trials Matter\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

M<\/span><\/a>ASH is part of a group of conditions known as <\/span>MAFLD (Metabolic dysfunction-associated Fatty Liver Disease)<\/span><\/span>6<\/span><\/span><\/a> previously known as <\/span>non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (<\/span>NAFLD<\/span>), which is the most common liver disorder in Western countries. <\/span>M<\/span>ASH, the more aggressive form of <\/span>M<\/span>AFLD, involves inflammation and liver cell damage, along with fat in the liver. Wi<\/span>th limited <\/span>ava<\/span>i<\/span>lable<\/span> t<\/span>reatment<\/span>s<\/span><\/span>7<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span>M<\/span>ASH can lead to liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and eventually liver failure<\/span><\/span>8<\/span><\/span><\/a> or liver cancer.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In most cases participants in the trials receive either the investigational drug or a placebo (also called blinded study) for a limited time, with the possibility of extending treatment based on results and health outcomes. The primary endpoint of the studies is improvement in liver fibrosis without worsening of <\/span>M<\/span>ASH or a resolution of <\/span>M<\/span>ASH with no worsening of liver fibrosis. This large-scale testing helps ensure that the drug\u2019s benefits are statistically significant and applicable to a broad population. Moreover, Phase 3 is <\/span>generally followed<\/span> by Phase 4, which occurs after the drug has been approved and marketed. Phase 4 trials continue to <\/span>monitor<\/span> the drug\u2019s effect in various populations and for any long-term side effects or benefits, ensuring ongoing surveillance after it has become available to the public. This comprehensive approach from Phase 1 through Phase 4 ensures that by the time a drug is fully approved, it has been rigorously tested for safety and efficacy.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
