FOMAT Medical Research testing promising antibody cocktail ‘REGN-COV2’ to treat, prevent COVID-19
Nicholas Focil, CEO at FOMAT, said the experimental treatment looks very much promising as it gives the body to fight it off on its own in a way. REGN-COV2 employs two antibodies to neutralize the coronavirus, hindering its infection of healthy cells.
According to the report, volunteers can get free coronavirus testing at a site across from the Oxnard Main Library – with results returning within an hour. Trial participants testing positive can take part in the study for treatment for COVID-19.
“This medication is for early onset. You are randomized into one of three arms. It’s a combination therapy that you will be in high dose, low dose or placebo. “It’s a single-day treatment; thereafter, you’ll receive follow-up appointments approximately 15 times over the next 35 days” Focil explained.
“This one depends on if you are in a household with somebody that has COVID. So what’s important with vaccines and preventative trials, in general, is that you have high exposure to the disease,” Focil said. This underscores the significance of robust testing protocols.
“The vaccine is around the corner. The treatment for COVID-19 is around the corner, and we do need the part of every single person here to make sure this thing gets through,” he added.
Focil notes that trial funding originates from the government’s “Operation Warp Speed,” striving for COVID-19 vaccine delivery by January 2021.
